The Haunting 3: Legend of Herobrine is a five-part science-fantasy horror film produced by The Admin Chickens. It is the third installment in The Haunting series and sequel to The Haunting: Second Life, based on popular Minecraft lore surrounding the figure known as Herobrine. The first part was released on March 8, 2013 and its final on October 27, 2013.

A sequel, in the form of a YouTube series known as The Haunted, premiered on June 24, 2014.

Plot[]

Part 1[]

Sometime after Drake chose to endure eternal punishment from Herobrine, Drake and Armen find themselves walking in a city called Ruby Shire. It is vaguely familiar to them, and they pick up a dagger there. The two pass out and find themselves in a room filled with lava and ash, reminiscent of the Nether. They move towards a glowing object they see at the end of a dark passageway, before passing out once more to find themselves in an unfamiliar infirmary. The dagger from Ruby Shire reappears here as well.

The two meet a man named Grayson, who finds their sudden appearance on an oil rig in the middle of the Arctic suspicious, but lets them stay overnight because of the blizzard outside. According to Grayson the storm has raged for three years straight, ever since his co-workers went missing (starting with Collin). Drake and Armen theorize that this Collin is Herobrine and that the location and Grayson may be influenced by him. They find many things about Grayson strange, but the most concerning details they find as they explore the facility (even finding blood out by the refinery) seem to have their explanations once they actually talk to him. In a computer room, they find a floppy disk with "HIM" written on it, adding to their suspicions that this place is haunted by Herobrine.

Part 2[]

Drake has a series of dreams of places connected to Herobrine: The house he and Armen were first haunted in, the jungle cabin, and a new location in which Herobrine appears, saying "You shouldn't be here." Drake wakes up.

Drake and Armen decide to bring up Herobrine with Grayson, who knows him only as a legend to scare children. Armen asks if he's been to any jungles, wondering if he's the "old man" from the jungle cabin. Grayson admits he finds Armen familiar, and comes to believe their claims that he's been haunted because he has no memory from before arriving at the Arctic base with Collin.

Feeling unsafe in this place with their suspicions confirmed, the three leave the base and fall into a strange underground room that Grayson was not aware of, with what looks like a rocket inside. Armen impulsively flips a lever that activates it, and the three flee to the surface through a connected mineshaft, just in time to see the rocket explode the Arctic base.

Part 3[]

Injured but alive, the three explore the ancient arctic ruins they find themselves in, which are reminiscent of the third place that Drake saw in his dream the prior night. Strange gems around the ruins make Armen and Drake uncomfortable. As they explore, they are plagued by a mysterious floating bow and Grayson tries many times to shoot it with his gun. They discover a book which fits perfectly into the slot of a strange mechanism, activating a portal. Grayson jumps through, with Drake and Armen following a few seconds behind.

Part 4[]

Drake and Armen arrive in a new location with Grayson nowhere in sight. Following the paths through this forest, they find the charred ruins of a city scattered with bones and blood. There they find Grayson camping out, who has been here for a year despite only going in the portal a few seconds earlier. He's been avoiding Herobrine, who haunts this region and a nearby city in particular. Drake suspects Herobrine's been guarding something there, and the three set off to brave the city with strength in numbers.

At the city library they find a history book. When poking around other buildings, they find that Armen's dagger from Ruby Shire unlocks a museum. There they equip various artefacts, weapons, and armor they find, and read about the fall of the five Kingdoms of Minecraftia at the hands of Herobrine's army. They learn of how Herobrine and his armies were finally defeated, and how the people were preparing for his return by designing weapon to be constructed in the imperial forge. With a lead, the group returns to the library for a city map to find it. Herobrine is hot on their tail, and they have to flee shortly after finding the map.

Part 5[]

Facing headache attacks from Herobrine as they try to find their way around the city, the three consider leaving with their lives but decide to take shelter in the Church of Notch. There, they find the Tree of Wisdom with a book of prophecies, and a set of armor that the book says Armen, the chosen one, must wear. They go to the Imperial Forge to craft the Fiery Sword using instructions from the book. Exploring a sewer system, the group finds a volcanic room with the three Sacred Diamonds and Herobrine waiting to fight them. They couldn't gain an advantage, and Armen got fed up and sacrificed himself to take Herobrine down. Drake and Grayson find an exit and set up camp, but Drake decides to part ways.

Due to Herobrine's body being destroyed, Herobrine entered Armen's body and took control of him in the post-credits scene.

Production[]

Pre-Production[]

A teaser for the film was released on August 23, 2012; the teaser was not intended to be used in the final cut of the film and was only for promotional purposes only. It did reveal one of the settings which the story took place, however.

Later that day, a short was released as a follow-up to the teaser. Like the teaser, this footage was not intended to be used in the final cut.

The following month on September 6, 2012, a third video was released. This short was unrelated to the previous videos, but also served as promotion and was not intended for the film.

Casting[]

RejectedShotgun reprises his role as Drake, xikroniczz reprises his role as Armen, and collincz reprises his role as Herobrine for the fourth and fifth parts of the film, while the character was played by ShadowsFusion in the first three. Gamecrown was cast to portray the story's tritagonist, Grayson.

Due to speculation of xikroniczz not reprising his role as Armen in the upcoming film, RejectedShotgun posted a video confirming Armen's appearance in The Haunting 3, on November 17, 2012.

Production[]

Production began sometime in January due to major planning delays. The first part of the film was finished around the end of February and the final two parts of the film were completed around the middle of October, before Halloween.

The many major delays eventually led to updates from RejectedShotgun on YouTube, the first on January 15, 2013, and the second on February 16, 2013. The first part of the film was eventually finished later that month.
